ENGLISH TRANSLATION [ Yorushika – Night Journey]
Say, if the night comes like this, what would become of us?
Let’s ride the train. As for me, I think I’m fine going anywhere
I guess you still don’t understand, but even the clouds are made of words
I see, if you’re going to that town nearby then I’ll join you
The song you wrote and anemone flowers* are fluttering, fluttering about gently on a sunny field
I don’t need anything else
In the twilight, twilight, twilight of a wavy summer field, your crying won’t stop, accompanied by the evening cicada’s** laughter
Summer is coming to an end
So that’s how it’s going to be, huh…
Say, when we become an adult one day, what would become of us?
Is there something, anything you want to do?
As for me, I’d like to see that “something”
You’d probably forget about it eventually, but only memories speak the truth
I see, let’s meet again in the future, walking side by side
Anemone flowers are swaying, swaying, swaying, swaying in the flowery wind
Words aren’t needed
In the twilight, twilight, twilight of a summer field, looking like it’s about to rain, you’re standing and crying, with your hair swaying in the wind
Summer is coming to an end
So that’s how it’s going to be, huh…
I see, so you’ve become an adult, huh
The song you wrote and anemone flowers are fluttering, fluttering about gently on a sunny field
I don’t need anything else
In the twilight, twilight, twilight of a wavy summer field, your crying won’t stop, accompanied by the evening cicada’s laughter
Summer is coming to an end
And I’ll remain here–
While you’ll keep going far away, to the other side
So that’s how it’s going to be, huh…
Translation notes:
*Anemone nikoensis is a flower native to Japan. It means “reminiscence” or “deep feelings” in flower language
** The kanji for higurashi/evening cicada is usually written as 蜩 but the kanji used here is 日暮, which means twilight/dusk and is usually read as “higure”
I interpreted this as the kanji having double meaning, which is quite common in Japanese songs. The japanese evening cicada usually signifies the end of summer.
This song marks the start of a new story
